Hi guys, very nice forum here:)
ive been using PT for about 6 months now (w/ an MBox) and so far so good BUT i remember when i used to use cakewalk i used to be able to cut and paste much easier. i remember that the cakewalk segments "snapped" together real easily while i have to really mess with PT to fit things together during editing.
what am i doing wrong? thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean, it's been a while since I used Cakewalk. Do you mean when you try to shift regions around they butt up against other regions easily in cakewalk?
In the upper left hand corner of the edit window are four edit modes, shuffle, slip, grid and spot. Refer to your PT Reference guide for exactly what each one does, pg208. (I wish could make attachments in posts, but you should have copied it over from the CD when you installed PT). Also playing around with the grid settings might help, again it's in the same part of the reference guide. Hope this helps and welcome to the board.

well, i pretty much know how to slip the regions together but i remember cakewalk having the regions "snapping" together differentely. kinds like puzzle pieces. and the regions somehow fit together better kind of like acid's.
maybe it's the way the timing is? not sure.

Do you use Grid Mode? Activate grid by clicking the Icon or F4 and it then snaps to the boundaries that you set (for example: a bar). That way you can easily copy paste so that everything stays in time.
Or isn't that what you mean?

Like I set, just see that Grid is checked left on top of your screen! Otherwise, click F4 and it is activated!! Just as easy as copy paste with cakewalk!

i know i'm a little late in replying to this...but try shuffle mode. anything you move in this mode will snap to the closest region that is on it's left (or the beginning of the track if nothing is there). now if you're talking about repeating something like a drum loop over and over, it's even easier to just highlight the region and Control+D it to duplicate as many times as you want. And if it's just a simple grab and copy you can do a option (maybe alt with PC) click and drag with the grabber tool to copy where you want it to. and if you're in shuffle mode it will just snap right against a region.
