I did a couple of clips of acoustic guitar through Behringer IMP pre's (one of their mixers, but I think same pre's as ADA8000) and through the Mbox's focusrites. I couldn't really tell a difference, at least not enough to decide which one I liked better. This was pretty shocking considering how much Homerecording.com slams behringer. Could be the rest of my signal chain wasn't good enough to bring out the differences or maybe I just don't have the ears for it yet. If anyone has any web hosting space I'd be up for starting a poll to A/B blind test the two pre's and see if any of you "golden ear'ed" folks can pick which is which.

Brett- I want to give you props again for starting this forum. I feel like I'm annoying people on the homerecording forum lately 'cause i'm probably coming off pro tools obsessed or something. but damn it! all these misconceptions i'm reading of pro tools is pissing me off. everyone has been bashing it left and right they seem to be stating false truths about the software, hardware and the company in general. it's friggin' crazy! that's why i feel the need to step in everytime so newcomers to pro tools don't get discourged and get the wrong information. and seems to be happening a LOT lately. i keep reading things like "Pro Tools doesn't work with MIDI....Digidesign is a monopoly....you can't get the hardware to work with anything else...etc." ugh
anyway, sorry....i was ranting and raving. thanks again ;D

you're totally right BEnny: That is the big reason why I started this forum!
At Homerecording, lots of ppl don't know all the possibilities Pro Tools have and just seem to bash it because it is the industry standard. (They may feel like the underdog?:-)).
I really didn't understand while there were so many boards there, but not a Pro Tools one.
Anyway, things are looking good here, so this forum is becoming a healthy addition to other recording boards!

this is a good start to a forum... im on home recording forum liike 90 % LESS now that this one is up. Im glad. I was sick of all the PT bashing. I think the only reason ppl bash on pt... is because they cant afford it... or they are mad that they bought a MOTU unit and not a Digi. haha

They think they should be able to get everything for cheap and not have to pay for any upgrades or anything. It's like how people hate Microsoft (although...that's a little bit different, i know). But the fact is, Microsoft is smart as hell the way they run things. Welcome to the business world people!!! Companies don't care about making you 100% happy. It's all about money, that's why they call it a business and not "Happy Fun Time Company"

I think a lot people think it's cool to NOT use the "industry standard" so they look like some ecentric genius. Of course they have to let you know all about how their way is SOO much better every time someone brings up PT. 90% of pro level DAW programs give you 90% of the same features, it's all what you're use too. So why not start off with one where you can bring your sessions to just about every studio in town and open them up with no problems? Sure, it kinda sucks that you have to use Digidesign interfaces, but like Ben said, that's really just smart business. You can download the program for free, but it's useless without hardware. Besides, Mbox to Digi 001 to Digi 002 covers an extremely broad range of needs and budgets, and you can still use whatever brand control surface, mic pres, outboard effects you want. Besides, I'm so sick of all the bitching the guys at HR do at each other. Seems like every thread over 10 replys ends with a chain of posts of people jawing at each other.

Now that we are gossiping anyway : I haven't got a good feeling with HR for the moment, and I much rather hang out here. Bitching to eachother in the cave is just fine, but I am often annoyed with the arrogance some HR members show to others who ask a question that is regarded as 'stupid'. Anyway, now I'm bitching, I had a wonderful time at HR. But I really want to talk about PT, so this forum is the one for me!

This is great. Just found HR myself, but I'm a PT guy. I'm running on a digi001 with an old faithfull blue G3 and I'm not using anything else until I make a lot more cash. I'll be checking in.

Pretty much all the advice I got on HR dot com was against Pro Tools apart from a couple of you guys.
Thankfully I ignored most of them. My mind was made up by actually using Pro Tools in a pro studio.
Actually, alot of what people say over there sounds like they are copying and pasting from a home recording text book. The microphone forum is a good example.

Hello All, I'm happy this forum was relatively easy to find. I went to Google and typed in protools message board and this forum was one of the first few choices. Happy to join in. I recently bought digi 002 rack and an emac so were trying just like everyone else in here. I'll have some questions soon. The first is, do I need to register the 002 rack/bundle with anyone online? The bundle gave me a bunch of software and said some stuff about registering it with each manufacturer and then they will email me back some registration I.D.'s and what not. Sounds to me like they just want to put me on their email list. Does that sound right? tha Rookie
